INSTACARE · PHONE AND VIDEO CARE

An online GP for evenings,
weekends and public holidays.

When your usual practice is closed, Instacare offers another way to speak with a doctor from home or elsewhere in New Zealand.

What hours can I arrange an appointment?

Instacare service hours are 8 am–10 pm daily, including Saturday, Sunday and New Zealand public holidays. Evening appointments are available within those hours, subject to clinician availability. All appointment times use New Zealand time, including daylight saving.

This is an appointment service. Contact the team to confirm an available time; an immediate consultation is not guaranteed.

What can an after-hours online doctor help with?

An online GP can discuss everyday health concerns, medicines and follow-up questions, and advise on your next steps. Prescriptions, medical certificates and referrals depend on the assessment and are not guaranteed.

If the doctor needs to examine you in person or your concern requires tests or treatment that cannot be provided remotely, they will recommend an appropriate next step. See our services for more information.

How do I arrange a phone or video appointment?

  1. Contact Instacare and tell the team whether you prefer phone or video.
  2. Confirm the available time and the applicable consultation fee.
  3. At your appointment, be ready in a quiet, private place. Follow the joining instructions supplied for video, or keep your phone nearby.

Read how appointments work or our guide to telehealth in New Zealand.

How much does after-hours care cost?

Consultation fees start at $35 NZD for a 15-minute appointment. The applicable fee depends on age and visitor status. Confirm your price and appointment with the team before proceeding.

See all consultation fees and the cancellation policy.

Can I book while away from home?

Yes, you can use Instacare while physically in New Zealand, including when travelling away from your usual GP. Choose somewhere private where you can speak freely. Keep details of your current location and any medicines available.

When should I seek urgent help instead?

Instacare is not an emergency service and is not open overnight. In an emergency, call 111. Do not wait for an online appointment.

For advice about where to seek care, call Healthline on 0800 611 116, available 24 hours a day. If you need urgent assessment or an in-person examination, contact a suitable local service.
