Your clinician will explain the proposed care, relevant benefits, risks, costs and alternatives, including choosing not to proceed.
You can ask questions, take time to decide and request a second opinion. We check understanding and respect your choices.
Choosing online care
Online GP care has limits. Your clinician checks your identity, current location and whether online assessment is suitable.
An in-person examination, tests or another service may be needed. A prescription or other requested outcome is not guaranteed.
Online GP care is not suitable for an emergency. In an emergency, call 111 and ask for an ambulance. For urgent medical needs, seek your nearest urgent care service or hospital.
Support and communication
Ask about an interpreter, accessible information or a support person. We discuss who is present and protect privacy at both ends of the consultation.
We presume people can make their own decisions unless there are reasonable grounds to think otherwise. Children and young people are included according to their understanding.
If someone is deciding on another person’s behalf, we check their authority and the person’s wishes and interests.
Your consent and choices
You may decline treatment or withdraw consent. Your clinician will explain any likely effects and suitable next steps.
Booking acknowledgements do not replace discussion and consent for the care proposed. Your clinician records the relevant information, questions and decisions.
Any proposed recording or AI-assisted transcription must be explained and your consent sought separately before use. You can decline it.
Relevant information is shared for ongoing care with your authorisation or another lawful basis, as explained in our privacy policy.
